Jamelie (my sister) is one of the most well travelled and experienced Canadian Women artists around. Her knowledge of matters pertaining to the fertile crescent and the Middle East is earned through years of reaching out to people and artists throughout the region over many years. I look forward to the Aga Khan Museum talk as it is timed perfectly with the Toronto Palestine Film Festival being held virtually this year. Give generously and support this important festival. Jamelie Hassan is a visual artist and activist based in London, Ontario. Since the 1970's, she has exhibited widely in Canada and internationally. She is also active as a lecturer, writer and independent curator and has travelled and worked globally.
In 2001 she received a Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts in recognition of her artistic achievement. Her activism, curatorial work and contributions to the artist-run centre movement in Canada were also mentioned by the jury in their statement. London, Ontario is on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Lenape, Attawandaron and Huron-Wendat peoples, at the forks of Deshkan Ziibi (Antler River), an area subject to the Dish with One Spoon Wampum and other treaties. |
